While I was working as a Design Consultant for the self-publishing company, I really got to hone my skills at photo manipulation. There were times when we'd get complex scenes for a cover idea from authors. Usually, we'd suggest something more simple instead, because you don't want to give away the whole story with the book cover image. However, there were cases when the idea, despite being slightly more complicated to execute, is just really good for the book that I did agree to do the digital painting myself.
These are just sample digital paintings I did using photo manipulation techniques. I usually start with a public domain painting as the base for the poses, then edited the faces, even the hairstyles, using various photos. The features for one face could possibly have come from different sources.
